Why is the Company named Ella's Kitchen Company?

Ella, my Norwegian Grandmother, bequeathed me the original Kitchen Cabinet and it was my daughter Ella (named after her grandmother) that used the Cabinet with me whenever we cooked together.

Why did I start Ella's Kitchen Company?

I had just moved to Shropshire with our three young children and began giving cookery lessons from my home. Integral to the fun of these cooking lessons was my Norwegian Kitchen Cabinet.

The children would queue up to use it and at the end of every lesson they would beg me to convince their parents to have one of these cabinets in their own homes - and it made me think... why not start making them?

How long did it take?

Within 18 months of deciding to do it, my first 12 scoop storage cabinet was made. This space-saving, child-friendly, convenient, kitchen spice and dry food storage cabinet was at last in production. I have stayed faithful to the manufacturing process that will make each Ella's Kitchen Cabinet an heirloom. They are built to last for generations; the wooden cabinets are made from FSC woods by local Shropshire craftsmen whilst the components have been sourced from Northern Europe.

Paint Colours

We use 'Little Greene Paint Company' for our paints;

The equivalent colours are:

Norwegian Blue - Bone China Blue

Norwegian Grey - Mid Lead

Stone - Portland Stone

Sage - Boxington

We have also started a bespoke service; whatever the colour you want for your storage product, we can paint it (cost dependent on paint chosen). For a small added cost of £25 per item, the Kitchen Cabinet can even be painted to match your AGA!

Are the cabinets 'mouse' proof?

Yes they are!

Can I get replacement bottles

Yes here is the page, Replacement Bottles.  They are £4 plus p&p

Where can I see the Kitchen Cabinets?

At the moment we do not sell to shops.

Why is there no delivery price for my Country?

If delivery is not quoted please email me on info@ellaskitchencompany.com and I will be happy to quote you a price.  I can also take payment over the telephone.

What are the dimensions of the bottle and scoop

The bottle is 13cm high with a diameter of 5cm. The lid is 7cm diameter

The front panel of the scoop is  110 wide x 140 high with a transparent front panel and label holder.

For the forseeable future all bottle lids will be plain.

How can I label my bottles?

Any of the sticky letters (that you label photo albums etc with) will adhere to the bottle lids, so that you can name them how you wish.

What and how much will each scoop hold?

500g Pasta, a bag of sugar, 1kg flour, oats, lentils, raisins etc.

It is not suitable for biscuits or cereals unless they are being used very frequently.

VAT

We are VAT Registered number 985820673 .  Countries purchasing outside the EU will have the VAT deducted at the paypoint, this is only applicable if the item is being delivered to the Country in question.

Why do we use Ply wood?

This is a question asked by some of our customers who like the idea of solid wood.

The reasons are as follows:

  • It is a more sustainable use of wood as the entire tree can be used, unlike solid wood where there is alot of wastage.
  • The finish is more even and reliable.  Since the end product is what my customer sees I like it to be solid and immobile.  Solid wood tends to move and bend, which creates cracks when painted unless very well seasoned.
  • Most importantly, my original kitchen cabinet was made of ply in the 1930's and it is part of the EKC 'look'
  • The beautiful markings that it creates are all part of the design.
  • There are obviously varying qualities of ply wood, we use the highest grade which is not only expensive but what yachts are made of.
