My history

Ella's Kitchen Company was started in 2004 by me, Katherina Saunders. I was inspired by a combination of wanting to draw from my Norwegian heritage, as well as by the thought of leaving a legacy for my children - in particular my daughter Ella, who was named after my Norwegian grandmother. It was she who left me the original Kitchen Cabinet - something that I had seen and used since childhood in our home in Oslo.
In 2003 we had just moved to Shropshire with our 3 young children, when I made the decision to start working again. This took the form of giving children's cookery classes at my home.
This planted the seed that was to become Ella's Kitchen Company. I found that half the fun of these cooking lessons was the children queuing up to use the flour, sugar and spices from my Norwegian Cabinet. At the end of the lesson they would beg me to convince their parents to have these cabinets in their own homes - and it made me think... why not start making them.

How the Cabinet is made
After 18 months my first 12 scoop storage cabinet was made and launched at the Ludlow Food Festival in Shropshire. This space saving, kitchen spice and dry food storage cabinet or mini-larder was at last in production.
I have stayed faithful to the manufacturing process that will make Ella's Kitchen Cabinet an heirloom. Built using responsibly sourced European wood the cabinet is made by a local Shropshire craftsman and hand-painted by Steven (picture above) with our Little Greene Paint low FOC paints. The scoops and bottles are both created in an artisan method using recycled materials. These things are important to me. I hope that by creating items that are built to last and not be thrown away when people move or improve their homes it will go some way to helping our environment.
It is great, I have created something which is child friendly, convenient, simple to use, mouse proof and storage solving.
Design Details
The Aluminum Scoops have a transparent front panel with a label holder and the scoop part at the back which allows for easy pouring. Each scoop holds approximately 1kg bag each of flour, sugar, rice and a 500g bag of pasta, as well as a long list of dried foods that we use on a daily basis such as Oats, Raisins, Lentils, Dried Polenta etc. The result solves the problem of those half empty packets (that I usually forget are there) that take up so much precious, cupboard space.
The bottles originally designed for spices, are perfect for anything that needs to be airtight, such as nuts and seeds. These thick glass bottles have been mould cast and have the EKC trademark on the base.
The height of the bottles is 12cm.
The half-turn aluminum lids are also cast and have the EKC logo on the inside. The rubber seal ensures they are air -tight when closed.
EKC is the name I have given to the accessories range surrounding Ella's Kitchen Cabinet.
Every part of EKC is stamped with our Logo, EKC is trademarked and registered design.
